Programs now being launched in Maplewood and Plainfield, NJ, are as follows:
- Working with a Minority-Owned Business in Plainfield, NJ, to promote urban agriculture as a means to increase the supply of fresh nutritious food in urban areas currently underserved by "normal" food distribution systems.
- Working with a diverse consortium of local minority participants, to pursue sustainability of Planet Earth by exploring ways and means to:
(a.) increase participation in the conversion of garbage to recyclable materials and
(b.) contribute to the discovery of solutions to those sustainability issues that
(i.) need the cooperation of the impacted populations to mitigate negative effects, and
(ii.) are quantifiable in their economic value allowing for a fair return to the participants. - Working with a Women-Owned Business in Maplewood, NJ, to provide workshops for coding apps and creating content within a Geeks FSO Campus using state of the art Free Space Optics for high speed/high bandwidth communication to increase participation in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) by underrepresented populations in those fields, recognizing that expertise in these areas contributes to the success of our mission as well as being in demand and paying well. This program is a gateway to certificate and degree-granting educational and training opportunities in the area's educational institutions.
Note: ES2UL is currently pursuing intern opportunities for students from our local community colleges and is in the process of formalizing its organizational structure to enter into these agreements.
